Important Privacy Disclosure. Please note that if you are unwilling to sign this letter using your full name, you may sign with your initials, or anonymously. We do intend to list on the letter your name (or initials, or “anonymous”), year of graduation, and—if provided—your degree and the school/college that issued it. For non-alumni/non-students, we would list your name (or initials) and the type of Cornell affiliation you hold (e.g., parent of student; relative of alum; staff; faculty; etc.). The letter will be sent to the President and to the Board of Trustees of Cornell, and we will notify you as to when it will be delivered.
We intend to keep certain personal information in our records—your name (or initials), email address, and country/zip code—solely for the purpose of enabling Cornell Courage organizers to contact you in the future. Aside from the information included (as described above) on the letter to the President and Board, WE WILL NOT, WITHOUT YOUR WRITTEN CONSENT, DISCLOSE ANY OF THIS PERSONAL INFORMATON TO ANYONE OUTSIDE THE CORNELL COURAGE ORGANIZING TEAM.
We plan to produce a summary version of the letter (without names of signatories) to share with certain other parties: this version would consist of the body of the letter, as well as summary information on signatories: i.e., the number of alumni (& decades of graduation), as well as the number of other types of affiliated supporters (e.g, parents of students). For example, “College of Engineering: 25 alumni from the 1970s.” The summary version would be potentially shared with public officials, organizations similar to , and one or more national news organizations (e.g., the New York Times, NPR, NBC).
About where this data is kept:
The information you enter on the form will go into Cornell Courage's (CC's) individual account at Fillout.com . We CC alumni pay for an account with Fillout, so that we don't rely on "free" petition-creating web sites that will then own (and may share) the data entered. Fillout doesn't sell this data and we can delete it permanently after we download it from them. (See their privacy policy). "We" refers to a small group of Cornell alumni on the CC steering committee; our names/data are also being included in this effort, and we share your need for privacy. At the same time, we welcome hearing from you if you want to press us further about this, and/or would like to offer any expertise you have to offer on data privacy and protection. Drop us a line at connect@cornellcourage.com.
